Pakistani App developers won Rs. 100,000 and six month internship


Yesterday, Dr. Mohammad Yaseen, Chairman of PTA, graced the Ericsson-PTA Mobile Excellence Award 2011 ceremony which was held in Islamabad at Ericsson Pakistan Headquarter. The winning team in this year’s Ericsson-PTA Mobile Excellence Award consisted of two undergraduate students of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Bashir and Mr. Muhammad Bilal Zafar. They got the first prize for display of their creativity in the mobile application “Poor man’s Reader”that they had built with the aim to increase the literacy rate of Pakistan. This team got Rs 100,000 prize money. The second prize went to Mr. Sameer Ahmed Khan, Mr. Noman Bin Rizwan and Mr. Zohaib Ahmed Shakir; all they were F.Sc students of University of Karachi. They were the runner ups for developing their “Educating Dreams – Be a savior!” app. Besides, special recognition awards were given to Mr. Irfan Ullah Khan, Mr. Hammad Masood and Mr Yawar Abbas. Mr. Irfan Ullah Khan of Comsats University of Technology Abottabad got the special recognition prize on his “Home Security System”, whereas Mr. Yawar Abbas and Mr. Hammad Masood got the special recognition prizes for the ‘Clever Minds” named application.
President and CEO of Ericsson Pakistan Private Limited Mr. Mohsen Tavakol said while addressing the ceremony that Ericsson-PTA Excellence Awards 2011 had gotten a great response from all the universities, however the top nominations were of the leading Pakistani universities’ students. Besides, recognizing the excellence of winners, Mr. Mohsen Tavakol announced these students would get 6 month internship in Erisson after completion of their graduation.
