The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is one the primary indicators used to measure the health of a country’s economy. Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali in a meeting with delegation of Planning Commission led by Dr. Nadeemul Haq shared his views that if Pakistan wants to move along with international scientific developments, then it has to share at least one per cent of its total GDP for progress of science and technology in the country up to 2015.
During the discussion, minister showed a great disappointment over the slow release of funds for the unfinished development projects. He informed the delegation that the ministry is facing many difficulties in completing the projects, due to insufficient funds.
At the start of the meeting Federal Secretary for Science and Technology Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar briefed the delegation about the progress of the projects followed by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Nadeem-ul-Haq that among the 51 approved developmental projects, 46 development projects were in progress while 18 among these were priced above Rs 100 million and 28 were those that cost below Rs 100 million.
The secretary said, the projects that were planned to be completed within 24 months are still under progress for the last seven years.
