Twitter banned again in Pakistan

twitter ban pakistan pta blasphemy caricature micro bloggingPakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA ) on the direction of Ministry of Information and Technology (MoIT) has blocked the access to Twitter in Pakistan onSunday.
According to reports, PTA blocked Twitter on account of an ongoing competition of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) caricatures.
In its statement, PTA said, it tried to contact Twitter management and asked to stop the such tweets from happening. After almost 5 faxes, the authority received a response from Twitter “they cannot stop individuals from doing such things on the website”.
“We sent the requests to Twitter management that discussion on the Twitter about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the upcoming competition was considered derogatory but Twitter refused to act upon the request”, Chairman PTA added.
In order to avoid a boiling situation in the country and an expected wrath of the public over this sensitive matter, PTA directed all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to ban the access of Twitter in Pakistan.

Update

At 23:30 PST we checked the Twitter and it was working on different networks including PTCL.
