Nokia and UNESCO Pakistan launches eTaleem applicationNokia and UNESCO has launched a mobile phone application eTaleem that is aiming to educated illiterate and less educated women in the rural areas of Pakistan. The application will run on S 40 series of Nokia mobile phones.
eTaleem application is a part of UNESCO effort for the promotion of the education among women in the rural areas of developing countries.  The program, “Mobile Literacy training for Literacy Training of Rural Female Adults” has gained the support from government organizations such as Literacy Department of Punjab and the Education Department of Ministry of Capital Administration Development.
The content of Nokia’s eTaleem application is based upon UNESCO’s educational DVDs designed and tested in community learning centers all over Pakistan.
Pakistan has 58% of literacy rate according to a survey conducted by PSLM in 2010-11. The percentage is very low in the rural areas especially for women.
At the moment some 2500 adult females are using eTaleem application on Nokia mobile phones in rural areas of Punjab and Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa.
