A notice on Telenor Pakistan’s website has said that the surcharge deducted on every recharge has been increased to 7%. The revised surcharge will be applicable from February 15, 2012.
The notice reads:
Increase in surcharge deducted from recharge
Dear Customer, kindly note that the surcharge being deducted from recharge will be increased to 7% with effect from 15th Feb 2012.
It is worth mentioning that Telenor had earlier levied admin charges of 1.5% on balance recharge which were taken back soon as this 1.5% additional charges were consolidated with service charges which increased them from 5 to 6.5 percent.
It should be noted that Mobilink has also implemented 7% service charges on every recharge.
Telecom operators defend this increase by stating the ever increasing operating expenses but it is interesting that they are constantly decreasing call and text tariffs while silently increasing the “not so well-known” charges in the name of service charges, admin charges and others.
PTA should take a note of this situation as the masses are smoke screened by aggressive advertising campaigns while companies are increasing hidden charges on their backs.
