Dell takes lead in Pakistan: announces 72 scholarships
Dell Pakistan is taking brisk initiatives to place itself well in the Pakistani market. At the moment, it seems to be the only brand that is supporting education in Pakistan. So it is a win-win situation for Dell as well as community.
Yesterday, it gave 150 laptops to special students of Lahore through the hands of CM Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). On the occasion, Dell’s South Asia General Manager announced that Dell will give 72 scholarships to the students of Punjab on the merit basis and out of that it will send 18 best students to the foreign countries like Turkey and Malaysia for training purpose under the foreign scholarship program.
Dell has been a part of Punjab Laptop Scheme that is still going on in the province. Under the scheme Mian Shahbaz Sharif is distributing 125,000 laptops among the meritorious students of Punjab. Although, the scheme received a huge criticism from the opponent of CM Shahbaz Sharif but IT professionals view this entire activity as a positive step in Pakistan that will help promote technology, internet usage and application development in Pakistan.
On seeing the success story and an almost fair process (complaints from students) of laptop distribution, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has already announced to award 25, 000 laptops to its students under the scheme name Naway Sahar (New Dawn) for which it has allocated Rs. 1 billion in the budget. KP government has formed a committee for the distribution of laptops that comprises on two members from the government and two from the opposition in order to exercise fair distribution.
Dell’s increasing popularity among Pakistani consumers is disturbing its competitors who are eager to win the contract for next laptop scheme in the country.
A CEO of the technology company told MORE that Dell’s top management and many other countries including India, Sri Lanka are closely watching the laptop distribution process in Pakistan. Such a quick execution of entire process has created a WOW factor across the technology world.
